The Three Traditional Tribal Groups, Barkandji, Mutthi Mutthi and Ngiyampaa all hold inherent creation stories which explain the origins and land formations that are today known collectively as the Willandra Lakes. For the Three Traditional Tribal Groups, Lake Mungo is a meeting place where three traditional territories come together. The Willandra Lakes Region was added to the World Heritage List in 1981. The Barkandji, Mutthi Mutthi and Ngiyampaa people are ensuring their children grow strong in their culture.
