Living Waters Discovery Maps (English)

Year 7 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Histories and Cultures, English

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have holistic belief systems and are spiritually and intellectually connected to land, sea, sky and waterways. Explore the importance of water for First Nations People. Students will examine the language used in descriptions of water, text types and illustrations used in the stories. They will compare the ways water is described and the stylistic devices used in these stories with other pieces of literature. Investigating the stylistic techniques, text structures and language features of a poem/song/story they will create an imaginative text about the value of water, using a variety of stylistic devices and experiments with text structures and language features. Discovery Maps connect students to Country and culture as they explore different Key Learning Areas and concepts. The Discovery Maps aim to cultivate a deeper understanding and respect for First Nations cultures through the exploration of media songs and stories.
