Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have holistic belief systems and are spiritually and intellectually connected to land, sea, sky and waterways. Explore the importance of water for First Nations People. Students will investigate people’s reliance on places and environments influence their perception of them and explore the economic, cultural, spiritual and aesthetic value of water for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples. Students will explore what makes places special for individuals and for societies, using the stories as examples, moving on to cover water variability across Australia, with particular emphasis on the effect of monsoons in northern Australia. Discovery Maps connect students to Country and culture as they explore different Key Learning Areas and concepts. The Discovery Maps aim to cultivate a deeper understanding and respect for First Nations cultures through the exploration of media songs and stories.
