Woonyoomboo: The Night Heron is a story of the Nyikina People of North West Australia. Woonyoomboo: The Night Heron’ is a story, shared by Senior Nyikina Cultural Custodians Annie Nayina Milgin and John Darraga Watson, that teaches the journey of ‘Woonyoomboo’, a Creation Ancestor for the Nyikina people. On his travels, ‘Woonyoomboo’ named and created all things for the Nyikina people including the Fitzroy River, leaving songs, stories and law at important and sacred sites along the way. The path he takes creates the course of the Fitzroy River.
