Wägilak weaving

Year 7 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Histories and Cultures, Design and Technologies, English, Health and Physical Education, Visual Arts

Reanie Billy and Patricia Forbes go through the process of creating a ḏimbuka from start to finish, from harvesting the pandanus leaves to collecting roots for dyeing the stripped leaves, to finally weaving the ḏimbuka itself. Reanie and Patricia have developed weaving skills and techniques over many years and are now passing that knowledge on to the next generation.
