Pitta Pitta
Pitta Pitta people are the Traditional Custodians of the lands in North-West Queensland. The Pitta Pitta people have continuously lived in harmony with the land for thousands of years prior to colonisation. Pitta Pitta is the language of the Pitta Pitta people. It is considered an endangered language with only a few remaining fluent speakers.
We would like to acknowledge all of the communities contributing to the Diversity of Arts Discovery Maps content. These include the Elders, Storytellers, Songmen, and Custodians of the Wagilak, Pitta Pitta, and Bangerang communities. Students will engage with the creation stories from Bangerang, Wagilak and Pitta Pitta Countries.
Students explore Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander sculptures and carvings. They gain insight into the history of Australia’s artefact collection practices in First Nations’ communities, including repatriation of sacred objects and ancestral remains.
