The cultural protocols including kinship and the warr-ngarr are important in the Nyikina community. The Nyikina term ‘warr-ngarr’ is the oldest apical ancestor, from the Nyikina forefathers. Apical ancestor, refers to the last common ancestor of an entire group. Nyikina old people taught everyone that the school was out on Nyikina Country, not in the classroom. The old people taught everyone, step by step, showing every little thing. For example, I learnt this way from my grandfathers and grandmothers and they learnt sitting out on Nyikina Country.
